What is reading exactly, and why is it important?

Reading is a foundational skill that strongly influences academic success. Reading is the ability to not only decipher text but also to extract meaning. Strong reading skills ensure students can access information, develop critical thinking, and expand their knowledge base across all subjects. Strong readers create stronger students!

How do we support children in becoming strong readers?

To help children become awesome readers, we must create a fun and encouraging environment. Keeping them motivated will benefit their overall success. Develop daily habits and routines that include reading and surround them with lots of language. Encourage them to explore a variety of genres and make reading an exciting adventure!
